Summary from movies.go.com:
Set in New York and New Jersey, circa 1996, Jersey Girl follows Ollie Trinke (Ben Affleck), a slick music promoter whose wife (Jennifer Lopez) is about to give birth to their first child. But a tragic accident leaves Ollie a widower tasked with raising a child by himself. He moves back in with his father (George Carlin) in Jersey, where he meets a flirtatious grad student (Liv Tyler).
Personal Critique:
Not as fall on the floor funny as most Kevin Smith films, but very clever and adorable still. A much better attempt at being serious than CHASING AMY was, the pain of the single parent life---along with its joys--is convincingly portrayed. Very much more like real life than most of these types of comedy-dramas and Ben Affleck gives a wonderful performance, yet is slightly showed up by young Raquel Castro and older George Carlin. It's not just another JLo and Ben movie---she dies fast into the movie obviously, though actually gives a surprisingly good performance, perhaps because it was so brief. I would recommend this movie to anyone, even though I know that critics did not like it as much as I did.
